Nominations now open for March book
I'll nominate Phantastes by George MacDonald (1858), considered by many to be the first book of the fantasy genre.
I nominate Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood and respectfully ask to remove Theft of Swords from contention as the two books that make it up have already been read by this group. For those who DO want to particpate in a group read of Theft of Swords it is already the selection of the sister group Fantasy Book Club Series so come over there to join in the discussion.

by Michael J. Sullivan."You need to check the bookshelf. We've already read this. When it was published as the Crown Conspiracy. Besides we are reading it in our sister group. http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/3...

Deborah wrote: "I nominate Cordelia's Honor starting the Vorkosigan saga (the latest in series CryoBurn ebook format currently only from BAEN website but not yet Kindle/nOOK versions)"Sorry.. This is scifi, not fantasy.
Man, too many fantasy and science fiction groups have already read Oryx and Crake, hopeful it will not be picked.
Ysmalan wrote: "I nominate The Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb. :)"I'll second Dragon Keeper. I read Hobb's other books and loved them.
Nominating The Desert Spear, by Peter V. Brett.
The Warded Man was read by this group last spring, and was well received. Let's follow it up! It's been in paperback format for a while now, and has great reviews!

My bad; clicked link in my inbox and thought I was at SF group. Taliesin and other books should have clued me in.
I would like to nominate The City of Dreaming Books. Walter Moers has such a fresh sense of twisted humor to his writing that I have yet to find in any other author and this is my favorite work of his by far.
I'll second City of Dreaming Books -- that's one of the most evocative titles I've ever come across.
Lauren wrote: "I would like to nominate The City of Dreaming Books. Walter Moers has such a fresh sense of twisted humor to his writing that I have yet to find in any other author and this is my favo..."Is that the 4th in a series?
Deborah wrote: "Lauren wrote: "Is that the 4th in a series? ..."Everything I've ever read about it says it's a shared world series, like Discworld or Bas-Lag, not a to-be-read-in-order sequential series.
Lara wrote: "I'd like to nominate The Cloud Roads by Martha Wells. She writes wonderfully rich fantasy worlds.
"I'll second this one, winged person on the cover, don't need to know more :)
Catherine wrote: "I'll second Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood."This post apocalyptic SF. Pretty good, though.
I'll nominate Dragon Bones by Patricia Briggs. She seems to be too well known lately for her PNR or UF writing of Mercy Thompson (one of the better examples in that genre) but she's actually a much better & has written more straight fantasy. While this is the first book of a duology, it stands alone just fine. I read it years ago & thought it was a stand alone.

Thanks for pointing that out. Oryx and Crake is disqualified then.
Tyrone wrote: "I would like to nominate The Misenchanted Sword by Lawrence Watt-Evans."I'll second this. It's been too long since I read his works. I think The Cyborg and the Sorcerers is my favorite by him, but I vaguely recall this one & thought it was quite good.
