Chapter 14 We went to church the next Sunday. I realized that I hadn’t gone to church since I left Nebraska, even though Lynda and I had had every intention of joining a local church when we moved to Arlington. I missed the fellowship of my fellow believers and looked forward to Pastor Hammond’s sermons. It seemed like all three hundred parishioners greeted me when I arrived, but most of the women really wanted to see JJ, who I took to the nursery. All of them told me how sorry they were that Lynda had died and that I lost my job working for the President. They mentioned how much they had always disliked the man and wished someone would get rid of him. I was asked if he would leave, and I honestly said that I didn’t know. Pastor Hammond came over to me as the family was sitting in the same pew that the family always seems to sit in, shook my hand, and said, “I’m glad to you see you came to church, Brian. How are you?” “I’m doing ok. I miss Lynda a lot, but I know I’ll see her again someday,” “I’m glad you’re not letting your grief and anger consume you. I’m also glad to see that you brought JJ to church,” “I have to pray a lot, by asking for guidance and the ability to let go of my anger towards Collins. If I did let my grief and anger consume me, I don’t know what I would be capable of doing, but it wouldn’t be good,”
