The short answer is: I was busy having babies, working and then, being a single mom. Plus, I was then a perfectionist and agonized over every syllable, every punctuation mark, and every sentence.

The long answer is: when you write a book about real people, that tells a story like this one does, you reflect very carefully and conscientiously while writing, about who might get hurt--and who you don't want to hurt.
