Bloodtrail by David R. Lewis David R. Lewis

Genre: modern vampire, thriller, suspense

Bloodtrail

Book Description

Tired of his life and weary of his sins, Joseph Casey places himself and his fate in the hands of medical researchers as an object of study. A four hundred-year-old Nosferati now in the power of mere humans, he asks for only one thing in return: help in finding his fourteen-year-old daughter, a young woman he has not seen in over one hundred fifty years, and who is the most bloodthirsty serial killer ever to walk the earth.

From a slave ship run aground in the Plymouth Colony during the hurricane of 1635 to the secret Kansas City laboratories of The Proteus Trust; from the sub-basement of Chicago’s Field Museum to the wilds of northern Arkansas; from the beauty of the Colorado high country to the legendary mountains of Austria, Bloodtrail is a novel of lost love, found redemption, surprising humor, and merciless brutality.

With so much in literature and film on the blood and gore of the vampire genre, Bloodtrail also deals with the humanity of the subject, combining history, science, myth, and legend with memorable characters and an inventive plot. Make no mistake. This remains a brutal story, but it is also funny, tragic, hopeful, loving and, most importantly, credible. More than just another vampire tale, it puts the genus under the microscope, explaining through medical science and DNA research how the Nosferati came to be, as it transports the vampire fable to a new level of realism and believability with solid characters and honest dialogue.

David Lewis (davidrlewis) | 9 comments “I’ll tell you who we are, little human Moira. We are the thing that goes bump in the night. We are the tickle on the back of your neck when there is no breeze. We are the gurgle at the bottom of a well, the new creak in an old house, the bare branches scraping against the bedroom window at night. We are the unexplained disappearance, the empty bed, the shadow in the corner of your eye, the empty chair that rocks.”

He paused long enough to smile at her. Moira’s head spun.

“We are what makes the lonely dog bark and what makes the alley cat hiss. We are the snapping twig in the dark. We are what roams outside the circle of firelight. We live in the closet, we lurk under the bed. We are the werewolf, the shape shifter, the zombie, the evil spirit, the moan in the woods and the cry on the wind. We are your worst nightmare and we may just be your salvation. We are the wolves to your buffalo! Be goddammed careful you don’t come up lame!”

Sue | 8 comments I just finished reading this book yesterday. It was one of those "couldn't put it down/can't stop thinking about it" books. Seriously, if you are looking for a book to read, and you think this one might look good - request it to review. You won't be sorry!

Anyway, I have my review posted to Goodreads now and am hitting Amazon with it in a little bit.

Thank you, Mr. Lewis, for making this book available. Oh - and if you're looking for people to review the sequel - I'm definitely willing to do that!

David Lewis (davidrlewis) | 9 comments Sue, you are obviously a very bright and perceptive person of good character, fine mind, and discerning taste! (Too much? Probably.)
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you liked the book. As to the sequel....it's on the way and will be available soon. I appreciate the review.

Laura Ann | 2 comments Oops! I didn't know I could have gotten this book free until after I already bought it! Who cares? It was a little bit of money for a nearly priceless read.
Loved it. See my review.

Sue | 8 comments Laura - just read your review. (You know, to see how it compared to mine! LOL) It looks like you liked Bloodtrail as much as I did. I keep watching for the next one.

Mr. Lewis - if you are reading this - please hurry! (No disrespect intended!)

David Lewis (davidrlewis) | 9 comments Sue...I can handle disrespect, it's respect that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Thanks to both you and Laura for the kind words. The sequel is finished and being proofed. It should be available before too long. I just released a novel entitled CALL ME CROCKETT on Smashwords and it should be on Amazon in a day or two. Sorry, no vamps in this one, but try it anyway if you like. Some of it is actually true.
