Whoops! While playing with Goodreads last year I tested how to set up a page, and never realised I'd published it too!

This is a group for those who have an interest in medieval crime, rather than straight historical war or romance. Of course the great thing about crime writing (says the crime writer) is that almost every aspect of life can be addressed through crime. Books can have themes of love, revenge, war, disaster and any other catastrophe. So, here, let's play with books by good writers of all kinds, who just happen to have murder incorporated into their stories.

Read on and enjoy!

Hi Michael. I added two books to start the ball rolling although one could also start discussions on The Death of a King or The Death of the Red King

Carol (ladygyn) | 10 comments Both those books are about actual events and are written in ways that catch the reader's interest, about parts of English history which generally is not so explored (except for you in the templar series). The murder of William Rufus is also a fascinating subject and well handled in this second book

Well, that's irritating - I replied to this an hour ago, but my comment appears to have got lost! Anyway, thanks for the comment, Carol. I was aware of Paul's book on Edward II. It came from his doctorate thesis, I think, which was revising the standard history on Edward II's supposed death. But Paul is basically a superb storyteller, isn't he? I have not seen the book on Rufus - I'll have to get hold of that!

Carol (ladygyn) | 10 comments I agree, you and he are the two historical fictional authors I would read without worrying if it would be well written or interesting. I also am a huge fan of Edward Marston, and Ian Morson (his Falconer series). As I said before perhaps a topic of discussion would be novels differing in perspective based on the narrator/or protagonist. For example your protagonist of Sir Baldwin vs Falconer, who is a scholar.

Very happy for that - but I don't think I'd be the best moderator for such a discussion! We'll need to get some more folks in on the act.
Off now to tweet about it!

Joseph Huzzah! Fantastic idea sir, look forward to getting into some good discussions about medieval crime, as well as some suggestions for books I haven't discovered yet. :D

I have just realised that you have added two books - you see, I'm new to this lark! - thanks for that. Just saw the bookshelf. Will work out what to do with that soon!

Carol (ladygyn) | 10 comments Sounds like a plan. I can't believe more folks aren't rushing to join the group especially with such an esteemed moderator. Will keep watching to see if any discussions arise

Esteemed! I'm honoured! Many thanks, though. I'll have to tweet and advertise the page.
