Hunger Games Trilogy discussion

The Careers were certainly an interesting group. However, it was sad that the kids were raised to WANT to head off to possible death. I mean, I know they could come home to fame and fortune, but there was no certainty to that and almost all victors turned to some form of drug to escape their nightmares, and often became drunkards or morphlings. Who'd want that?

I bet the former career winners didn't get as screwed up. Since they were hard-wired for brutality, then the games probably weren't as mentally devastating to them. While I don't understand why, I think I can sympathize.

You're probably right. Maybe it's just the districts where going to the HG isn't such a huge honor that you have all the nightmares and such.

I guess, but seeing as so many people die, and you really only have a 1 in 24 (perhaps a bit more...) chance of making it, i still don't see the appeal.

I liked the Career Tributes. If I was chosen to be in the Hunger Games, I would be a part of the Career Pack.

I guess that I'd try to, seeing that they survive the longest...but it'd take a lot just to get in.

I would so not be in the Career group. I would probably not even make it past the initial bloodbath, at least not with any supplies. You don't really realize when you read it or watch it on TV, but killing someone... I couldn't do it. Even if they were in the Career group. Even if they were holding a knife over my face, I don't think I could do it. And thinking about it, the Career group is the same as the rest of them, the same as you, but their minds are poisoned to want to kill, and that's something that's really sad.

I've thought about it that way before also, and, it is really sad. And, I totally agree with you, Kate9, when you said you couldn't kill anyone. Neither could I. However, if they were holding a knife over my face, even though it would be hard, I think instinct would kick in, and I could actually kill them. Under any other circumstances, probably not.

to be completely honest, if they were holding a knife over my face i would want to kill them but probably wouldn't even be strong enough to do it; when you think about it, it probably takes a lot of physical strength and force to stab someone or fire a gun...
