I thought Vin was a Mary Sue a lot sooner than this. Lol. I think Sanderson writes well but his portrayal of female characters I don't like. They're either a "rhymes with witch" or they're Mary Sue-ish. Actually all of them are pretty feminine aren't they? Including in her own way Tindwyl. I just think there's an imbalance here.@Lee, I liked not loved Mistborn. The Well of Ascension annoyed me, but I'm absolutely loving The Hero of Ages. So there may be hope.
I am digging the hero of Ages as well. Have you noticed Sanderson tends to re-explain alot of things over and over again? Sometimes it feels like "previously on Lost" but after each change in scene. It's like he doesn't trust us to have memories.
I did notice that in the last book. Not so much for things that had happened in the book but in the previous books. Some books could use reminders **cough** Malazan **cough** but Mistborn didn't need so many. Still very much liked it though.
LOL @ Traci. was wondering if we could get through a whole thread without mentioning the "M" word, but alas no. Can't miss us "cold turkey" readers can you :)Just finished this section. Sanderson has the uncanny ability to bore me and then make me sit up straight thinking "ohhhh that's good/interesting". I am finding the same with this book. I was getting pretty much bored with the siege story and the inability to find the spy, or even try and find the spy, the story seemed to be ambling along waiting for the book to end, so the armies outside could fight and blah blah blah. But then up pops Cett in the assembly with some cold ass attitude. I loved that, I loved the character and his obvious contempt for the assembly, his absolute confidence, this was a very well written character, I immediately liked him,
Zane is playing a great game, I like the fact he is really trying to convince Vin that Mistborn shouldn't be weapons, to be used by the nobility. The way he is playing off the mistlings of Straff as Cett's and trying to kill Straff at the same time. His clever insanity and Cett's role to that point were really what saved this part of the book. Otherwise, I am going to say, I am finding it harder to pick up and carry on. But........hearing Traci say she loves Hero of Ages will be enough to keep me going. I am sure there will be more great moments along the way.
I agree re the 'moments of boredom' issue. But the good moments are good enough to keep me interested
My favorite part of this particular section was at the very last when Eland made the decision (view spoiler)
So I guess I'm not alone here. It's kinda weird, I get pretty bored at times and think to myself, just come on already and get this thing moving, but I also like the book and find that I want to keep reading. To this point, I think Oresuer is one of my favorite characters. I thought it was really interesting when he helped Vin with the Thugs, Kandra are not supposed to kill, but I guess they can hurt others. Sazed is still keeping my interest as well. Can't say that I like Zane too much. As for the the twist with Cett, that caught me by surprise, thought it was pretty fun to read. Anyways, obviously behind some, Thunder basketball keeping my attention these days.

and it might be just that this section ends with Vin fighting off 6 allomancers while wearing a white dress, this after being wrong in all her guesses re tha kandra, but is she kind of getting Mary Sue-ish??? or is it just me? I dont know...
I am liking Sazed though, and this little quasi=romance with Tindwyl seems somehow nice...
and Elend's assembly? Bah!
ok-that was a little opinionated, plus it sounds like I dont like the book. Which I do! I really do! What do you all think?
