How influential are the book trailers? I know a lot depends on reach but do you guys see an increase of sales?
We're going to be shooting a commercial for my book series in the next few weeks and I'm wondering where to promote the stuff.

I'm not really sure they have much of an impact really. I did mine mainly because it was a different type of creative outlet to show my book. I've always done video editing as a hobby and thought it was a great way to merge the two.
I suppose if you are lucky enough for the trailer to somehow go viral it could be a benefit.

I agree with S.W. At least from the indie standpoint. I can see how an established/popular author could generate some great buzz about an upcoming release.

It is a fun way to let people know what your book is about though.

No idea how much of an impact trailers have on sales. Trailers definitely influence library checkouts. (I'm in a school library).

There is an article in School Library Journal (U.S.) about book trailers. I've not read it yet.

Hi everyone - Just joined Goodreads a few days ago and saw your discussion yesterday. I was so impressed by the trailers - I decided to make one last night for Brenna and the Horses of Lusayana which I published on Kindle about a week and a half ago. It's not high art but it was fun to make - I'd never even opened that programme before!
I'd like to put a link but it won't come up. Any advice on how to put a youtube link - I've got the address but when I preview it it doesn't work.

Hi Lee,
You need to have your clip open in YouTube, then just copy the address from the top of the page and paste it in the post. It's the simplest way. It should work. Maybe the link doesn't work in preview.
Hint: Compare the address you copy/paste to others on here, if it looks much the same you should be ok)

I'm not sure about MG trailers but for YA, whenever I speak to a class, I always show the trailer first and then the kids are hooked. I keep mine short!
