I don't understand it either. Reading is my mini vacation from my crazy life. LOL I have read books that I love and have touched me. I've also read books that I didn't like. So what. We each have our own taste in books. Life is too short to get upset or angry about a story.

I also agree. But I never understood is why people hate when a book does well. How can you dislike something because its popular and making money?
Kristina wrote: "I also agree. But I never understood is why people hate when a book does well. How can you dislike something because its popular and making money?"Sounds like envy, jealousy...I don't understand it either.
Kristina wrote: "I also agree. But I never understood is why people hate when a book does well. You want to watch Titanic again for thousandth time because Leonardo Dicaprio is the hottest thing since, well just about anything, really. So what that he gives me a reason to get up in the morning and live, and a reason to go to bed at night so I can dream away...what the heck is wrong with that!! Don't judge me! You don't own me!! I can do what I want, and I can do it over and over and damn well enjoy myself while I'm doing it too!!!
Oh, um, sorry. What was the question?

You can get another buddy to read, don't worry, I'm giving you permission. I won't consider it cheating. LOL

I never associated the bandwagon with books before, more sports, until I joined GR. Yeah, I'm also a believer a do what you want.
I have also been wanting to read Divergent. Since I own it, it just keeps falling down my to read list since I borrow from the library a lot.
Ugh...I guess this all came up because a friend of mine on FB posted that she is reading Fifty, and one of her guy friends started trashing the book left and right. He never even read it. He said he read some excerpts. Oh please. It's so stupid. He's just jealous that he didn't come up with this brilliant idea and is now a mega gazzilionaire because of it. LOL

Ok. I'm just gonna butt in on your conversation and just make a comment.I personally like having Book vs Book debates with my friends. It's all fun and games but I find it really entertaining. It challenges and cements what I think about the book. Sometimes, I see things one sided. Like with characters. Even if they did something wrong, I will make excuses for them just because I really like them. Also, I just think it's in the nature of readers to argue and challenge and think.

You are not butting in. :) We are happy to have your thoughts.

100% agreed! What i'm talking about is when people get angry about a book. Basically i'm in this heated conversation (well he's all upset, i'm just having fun with him lol) about Fifty. He's totally going nutty on me. He's cursing at me, making fun of me. LOL it's funny to me. But what i'm talking about is why do people have to get so serious and angry about a book. I love all books, good ones, bad ones, who cares. If its not my type, it's not my type. You like it, hey, whatever works for you. No reason to get into a fight about it. :) I love a good heated debate though. Those are fun, as long as they STAY fun. YKWIM?

I disagree Tina, how rude of her to come in here thinking she can just post whatever she wants! The nerve!! LOL
LOL wanna see what he just wrote to me in a post LOLOLOL"Maybe you should consider going back to school to learn so proper sentence structure"
CLASSIC!! lol isn't that great! Idiot. ha! i'm having too much fun here. Maybe I should put him out of his misery and stop responding to his posts. Nah!!! LOL
Tina wrote: "That's funny. I still don't get people sometimes. Have fun, be happy and go with the flow. :)"yes ma'am!
I agree that this whole getting angry about other books success and popularity is just silly. I mean it happens with so many other things too! Example: one of my friends made a FB post once about how she appreciated people more who like music that isn't mainstream. Well, that is just ridiculous! There is nothing wrong with liking things that are popular. She was implying that people who only listen to popular music are in a way "sell outs" and don't have a mind of their own. I think the same thing applies to books, movies, TV, etc. I have never understood why some people get angry about these things. It is like they want to start something just for sake of being different by vehemently voicing their "disgust" with the mainstream. Like you guys have already said, we can all like what we want so who cares?!?!I also hate it when people think that all of the mainstream media is "lesser" or the people who created it aren't talented. It is all so ridiculous! I say if you want to like Fifty then go right ahead and love it. It's not like we are all machines or something if we don't oppose what is popular.
Of course, me saying all this doesn't mean I am opposed to authors, musicians, actors, etc. who go against the grain and are different. I think everyone needs to celebrate differences but also celebrate things that a majority of people enjoy.
Ok, I think I am done ranting now... Maybe I should delete this whole post, haha. :)

I think everyone is making good valid points. I feel the same way. It's just another way for people to try and force their thoughts, feelings, opinions, and views onto others. I mean hey everyone has opinions or likes & dislikes, so why get upset? Just agree to disagree and get over it! I don't have the time nor do I wish to waste energy on dealing with people like that. It makes me laugh to think people are so uptight about things. And @ Melissa I couldn't agree more with you! Well thought and said. Everyone should have an open mind like the rest of us. But then again I love good controversy so it wouldn't be much fun if everyone was as easy going as the rest of us.

I just notice (ESP with Fifty, that people (the ones that don't like it who have never read it, lol) love to bash it and say all these bad things about it. I thought it was entertaining, funny, exciting, intense, deep, sad, well writen. LOL ok, scratch the last one. But people are getting so upset that it has done so well. Does this happen often in the book world? Why do people get so crazy and want to be so negative about it? Who cares? I mean, I loved the book, and I have fun talking about it. But that's all it is to me, fun. Another example is Harry Potter vs. Twilight. I mean, again, who the heck cares. Whatever floats your boat, right? You like it, they don't. Why fight? You can't force someone to like a book that you like or vice versa. Why can't people just enjoy reading what appeals to them, and not read what doesn't.
NOTE....I do not want to start a debate on the books I brought up. I am new to this whole world of books, and I'm very curious as to why people can't just enjoy themselves while they are reading. Ok, on your mark, get set....GO!!....
