I see there are more members of this group (I don't check this page often). (Wish I could change the title to something generic, what are we up to with words? something like that.)
What interests me in talk about books is the relation between writing (words) and what we write (and read) about? I suppose it comes down to why we write, why we read.
For me it feels like I write and read to discover what I think of the world -- not to represent in itself but to represent my relation to it, what it means to me. On the other hand, sometimes I write and read to escape. These two aims contradict each other: am I trying to make sense of the world or am I trying to avoid it?
I want to say both, but maybe that's a dodge. I am curious what others think.
