Yes eating is an activity. Cooks are always in the back and offering up whatever you want to eat. There are large tables for people to sit at that run the length of the room.

There was a glimmer of amber hair in the sun as the door opened. A moment later it shut, and Amber was fully visible as she sauntered into mostly empty mess hall, a smirk on her face. Oh thank the gods they're gone. They've all a lack of personal space, the imbeciles. She leaned over the counter to smile mockingly at the cooks. "Do you have anything that's not absolutely repulsing?" she chirruped in her odd accent. "I'd not like to get sick again. Maybe an ambrosia salad?" she tapped her fingers together as the food was prepared, then took the bowl when it was done. Afterwords she sat down beside a large window, to gaze out at the camp.
Walking in with a confused look on her face, AJ clearly couldn't find her cabin. She'd try asking a bunch of people where her room would be, they said they'd assigned her one, but it wasn't ready yet. Apparently they took enough time to personalize it the way you wanted, which she found quite interesting and cool. Ana didn't really have much stuff because her brother had promised to take her shopping for new clothes later and didn't have anywhere to put it. So, she kept her bag on her. Walking over to the counter, Anastasia figured she might as well get something to eat since she'd found this place, "Umm...could I just get a hamburger?" The lady nodded and turned to start making one, "Oh, and no lettuce or pickles please."
Heather sat at a table, picking at a salad and some fries. She sighed, brushing some hair out of her face and looked out the window. It was going to be a long day, she could already tell. She tapped her fingers against the side of a can of soda, even though she hadn't drunk any. Heather hadn't even opened it yet.
"Thanks," she said to the lady, giving her a small smile before walking over to where the tables were. There were a few people in here, and AJ figured she better talk to one of them. Picking one at random, Anastasia sat next to Heather and spit her gum in the napkin, smiling at her, "Hey."
"Hey Ana." Heather hated using people's actual names. She'd seen the other girl around before, but they hadn't really talked. She forced a smile back, but wasn't in that good of a mood. "What's up?" Heather asked, glancing at her hamburger. She looked away, then back at Anastasia, and her smile became slightly more genuine.
Kaden looked around the room, stifling the urge to sigh. None of his friends were here yet...lovely. He had been leaning on the back wall, blending into the shadows. It was one of those things that happened whether he likes it or not, since he hadn't completely mastered his control yet. He went through the line admissibly, staring off into space. He ended up with nachos and lemonade.
Picking off the bun, she just tore off a piece of the meat and ate it plain instead. Ever since her condition started, she'd pretty much gone on a meat diet only. Although Cliff would probably make her eat something else though, probably saying she was being unhealthy. AJ had only met a few people before arriving at camp, but Heather had been one of the few that she'd said hi to and actually knew. "Hey, umm...I haven't gotten my room yet. Apparently they're like personalizing it and everything." she shrugged, taking another shred of meat and popping it in her mouth.
Heather nodded, vaguely. "Yeah. They do that." She said, looking around. Heather had thought she'd heard something, but now she wasn't so sure. Heather shook her head, figuring it was some kid who had no control over their power yet. She glanced at Anastasia's food again but didn't say anything. It wasn't like she had good eating habits either. Heather shrugged, "The counselors like you to feel safe here and everything." She added.
Kaden wondered if he should take his food outside...but with one more perilous look around for his normal friends, he took a seat next to AJ, figuring it was the least threatening place he could choose. He'd rather not eat alone...people tended to shy away from the shadows. It was rather annoying. Its not like he was going to bite their hide off or something. That had only almost happened once. (view spoiler) "Hey ladies." he commented, flashing a smile before eating a chip.
AJ gave a short laugh, "Not my counselor, he told me to get down from the climbing wall or he'd be scraping my guts off of the grou..." Pausing when another guy sat next to her, she wasn't really going to finish the sentence. That probably sounded really weird to him, oh well, change the subject, "Hi, glad you took the seat I was saving for you." Anastasia glanced around again, no one else was in here and she understood why he sat by them. The more the merrier.((Let's just keep it in this order :) ))
((hah k))
"Hey Kayd." Heather smiled at him, looking away before her face started to turn red. "Well, depending on what species you are, they don't like you doing certain things. Usually, though, the counselors are nice enough." Heather shrugged and tapped her fingers against her soda again, glancing at Kayden, then AJ. She brushed some hair out of her face, shrugging again.

Kaden took a drink of lemonade to hide his smirk. He'd never gotten a nickname. Interesting. "Well it all depends on who's your counselor." he remarked, picking up their conversation. "I have Jake...and he's alright. He's actually kind of cool."
AJ perked up a bit, "I have Cliff, but Jake is my older brother. Weird how I wasn't put in his cabin..." She trailed off and tore off another bite of her burger and popped it in her mouth. Anastasia didn't really know the guys name sitting next to her, but apparently he was called Kayd.
Amber chewed slowly on her berries, listening to the other table's conversation. She may have not liked anyone, but she found them interesting. Magical beings always were, with their mysterious powers and strengths. She tied her hair back and continued at her salad, wondering where to go next.
Heather glanced between them again, "Kayd, you should introduce yourself." She picked up a fry and then put it back. She wasn't trying to boss him around, but figured Anastasia hadn't been here that long and didn't know everyone yet. Heather wondered what she'd meant by brother, but didn't ask. She looked out the window again, making a slight face at the shining sun.
Kaden turned towards AJ, realizing Heather was probably right. Just because he knew her didn't mean she knew him. "I'm Kaden, this is my second year, species; Demon." he said, giving her his most dazzling smile. On the word demon his Iris's flashed red for emphasis. At least that was one thing he could control.
"Hmm..." she chewed on the rest of her burger and then took a sip of her soda that had been sitting on her tray. She'd been shocked by seeing Faerie wings earlier, now she was determined to not have an expression like that again, he had laughed at her. "Kaden...Demon...do you have a nickname you prefer...besides Kayd?" she said, giving a smile to Heather. AJ usually liked to call people by nicknames, a thing she'd gotten from her older brother. But for some reason, she didn't think of one for Heather though, she just seemed like a...Heather.
Heather glanced at Amber, but she seemed ok sitting by herself, so Heather didn't motion her over to their table. She looked at AJ, almost disappointed by her reaction. the first time she'd found out about some of the more rare species...Well, being a gifted human, or elemental was pretty common, but Kaden...wasn't. And that's why she liked him Heather shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. She picked at her food again, for something to do while they waited for his reply to AJ's question.
Kaden almost mentioned he hadn't even had a nickname before he'd sat down at the table, but he didn't want to hurt Heather's feelings. "Uhmm..Not that I can think of." he mentioned, going back to his food.
Taking another sip of her drink, she nodded, "Okay, I'll tell you when I come up with one. Glancing over at Heather, she saw her look back at another girl...another girl Anastasia didn't know. She had a lot of people to meet here, she'd probably be meeting new people the entire year. "So Kaden has Jake, who do you have Heather?" she asked, switching the subject. Why did she have to be sitting in the middle? She felt like she had to lean back in the chair.
"I'm cabin 4 with Park." Heather replied, making a face again. "She's a water elemental." Heather added half-explaining why she wasn't fond of her, but not really. When she'd come here from almost drowning, they'd figured someone who would make sure she didn't drown again would be best. Heather didn't really agree, but at least her counselor was the same gender, which was nice.
Kaden glanced at Heather, frowning. "Everyone I've talked to said Parker was pretty awesome. A lot of my friends have her...isn't that cabin like, full of guys?" he shrugged, still eating his food. "I met her, she seemed okay to me.."
"I heard she was pretty cool." AJ chimed in, having heard about all the counselors before coming here. Apparently there was only one room of girls and the rest were boys. "Yea, I know the other girl rooming there. She didn't say anything about it though. Must be an interesting cabin..." Ana said, then thought that Heather might know who she was talking about. She was the only other girl there, they were bound to know each other.
"Park's fine." She said to Kaden not looking at him. Heather turned to answer AJ. "It's mostly guys, but Dani's there with me. It can be interesting, I guess, but I think that it's about the same as most of the other cabins." Heather shrugged, and wrapped her jacket tighter around herself. She wasn't really cold, but it was a habit whenever she was uncomfortable.
Kaden ate his food silently for a second. This conversation had gotten awkward. There was obviously some kind of problem she had with her Counselor...he wondered if it was her species. She had said water elemental like a curse. He let it go though, not really caring enough to ask. "Who do you have AJ?"
Raising an eyebrow, she wondered why Heather was so awkward all of the sudden, but shrugged her shoulders. If she wanted to say something, she would, AJ wasn't one to pry. Glancing over at him and spread her hands out so it looked like the shape of wings, "Cliff, the one that can fly." He definitely had had a...different first impression from most people she'd seen, but whatever, he probably did something like that to everyone.
Heather almost laughed at the irony, but kept her face blank. Cliff was the other counselor she didn't really like. He was a summer faeire, and as hot as he might look, she was a shadows kind of girl ever since she'd become a border. "And you have the vampire." heather said, pointing to Kaden
Kaden nodded. She was pretty much pointing out the obvious. He suppressed a sigh...where was everybody? This conversation had turned from slightly interesting, to flat out boring. The shadows around him thickened for a second with his souring mood, giving him a darker appearance. "It would seem so." he remarked.
Raising an eyebrow, "Well Jake's pretty cool." she paused, finishing up her drink and then stood up, smirking at Heather. It was pretty obvious of her crush on him and she was literally standing in the middle of it. "Speaking of him, I need to go find him. See you later guys." she said, throwing away and walking out the doors. AJ still needed to find a nickname for Kaden... This was the second time she had left a conversation with someone, hopefully everyone wouldn't be offended with her by leaving. She just wasn't much of a talker in the first place, she was already being way more talkative than normal.
Heather stared at Kaden, as his mood shifted and then she looked away. Usually, that only happened when he wasn't happy. "Bye Ana." Heather called out, keeping her voice even. She wondered if Kaden would go too, but hoped not. Not that she was able to keep him from being bored apparently. Heather put her fingers in her pocket, to get a cigarette but sighed when all she felt was her lighter.
Kaden watched Heather carefully from across the bench. Her fingers seemed to be constantly moving, in she pursed her lips occasionally almost unconsciously. He recognized the habit from his father, smoking. "Bad habit." he chided, almost reading her mind. "Kind of gross too. Ever kissed a smoker? It tasted like an ash tray."
Heather sighed, wondering how he knew, but didn't ask. "I know. I tried quitting, because someone else told me the same thing, but then he ended up being the reason I got sent here, so I started again." Heather slid the lighter over to him, "You wana hold that for me?" She hadn't waited for him to answer. "Makes it easier to stop again." Although with how many fire elementals there were here, it would be easier than at home to get one lit if she really needed it.
Amber glanced over at the boy, the one with the darkened shadows around him. But then they went away and she sighed. Isn't there any excitement in this camp? she picked up her bowl and walked across the room, setting it down against the rotating rack on the wall. After that she exited the room, deciding she should practice flying at the track. Besides, there was always accidents at the track. Always a good chance to laugh at other's embarrassment and pain.
Kaden's eyes flickered towards the girl that got up and walked out of the room. He was surprised, he hadn't realized she had been in the room. He looked back to Heather, sliding the lighter of the table and into his pocket. He would probably chuck it into the lake when he left... "Sounds...pleasant." he retorted, unable to keep the smirk off his face. "So when did I acquire the nickname? Just curious."
Heather's eyes darkened for a second, and she already regretted giving him her lighter. She shrugged, staring out the window when she answered, "I never use people's real names anymore." She replied after just a long enough silence that she might as well not have said anything. Heather turned to face him, "I can call you something else, if you prefer. But you didn't tell Ana anything, so I figure Kayd is fine."
Kaden laughed under his breath, and the shadows around him completely dissipated. "I didn't tell her I had a nickname because I was unaware of having any." he remarked, giving her a pointed look.
"Give me back my lighter?" Heather asked half-heartedly. She still didn't have anything to light, but since he seemed to be happier, it was worth a try. She ran her fingers through her hair, and leaned back, not bothering to pretend to eat anymore. "Of course you have nicknames." She said smiling softly at him
Kaden gave her a reproachful look when she asked for the lighter, his eyes said it all-so he didn't even have to say no. The look disappeared when she continued though, and he raised his eyebrows in a condescending fashion. "Oh yeah? What are they?" he asked, twisting her implication on the plural part.
Heather sighed, when he didn't give it back, but didn't argue. She'd known it had been a long shot. Heather looked him over thoughtfully, "Well, their not all one's we'd say to your face." She admitted shrugging, "Red-eyes, based on some dragon in a cartoon show." She frowned slightly, having never understood that. "Demon-boy...I don't know. Just random things." Heather shrugged, "and of course, Kayd." She added, almost teasing him but not quite since she didn't know how he might react.
Kaden grinned at her comment about not saying things to his face. He wasn't oblivious to camp gossip. He had dealt with it all last year...especially since he had yet to master his powers like some pretty cool second years. His personality made up for his lack of talent with magical things though...it wasn't his fault he was a halfling. "You'd think people could be more creative." he said thoughtfully. "I remember a girl last year, she's almost make cheap shots about me being a waiter. Ah. Now some of the names she called me were pretty funny. Some newbie actually thought my name was Denny for how many people called me it."
"A waiter?" Heather raised her eyebrows, not understanding how someone would come up with that. She smiled slightly, "I can go tell Ana to start calling you Denny." She said, "Although if you're looking for creative, she might come up with something good." Heather reached into her pockets for a cigarette and sighed to herself, hoping he hadn't noticed. She was just so used to it. Tomorrow, she'd have to wear something without pockets. If she even had clothes like that.
Kaden gaze with full of amusement. "Well, its appropriate. Since I work as a waiter...at Denny's. You know, the breakfast place?" he said, chuckling under his breath. "I actually get pretty great tips. Considering my good looks and obvious charm. I get slipped digits as well." he joked, winking. Although it was half true.
Heather scrunched up her nose. "Really? You seem more like...an Red-Lobster kind of waiter to me." She ducked her hear forward, so that her hair covered most of her face. "I always thought giving you're number out at reastraunts(sp) only happened in cheesy movies?"
Kaden's eyes shined with humor, and he was actually smiling genuinly. Who knew he had it in him? "I've actually worked at a couple of different places. I got fired from a couple jobs." he paused, rolling his eyes. "Gods. I remember this one jack@ss. He said his food was under cooked, and twice I brought him a new plate. The third time he asked me for another drink, he wore it instead. Apparently that's frowned open in the commercial industry." he said, as if he could hardly believe it himself. He could tell waiter stories all day...he had had a lot of different jobs.
Heather listened to his story, but was more interested in watching the shadows around him. Or more precisely, the lack of shadows. She never remembered him looking like that before, and wasn't sure what was going on. He was smiling, and seemed happy. She would know if he was sick, as a side affect of her being a border, but Heather wasn't sure what was going on. "I'll be sure not to let you be my waiter if I plan to have a drink." Heather commented, squinting at him, still trying to figure it out. "Although, it would be nice if you had my number." She was only half teasing about that.
"I only take digits of their scrawled onto the backs of receipts." he replied, leaning forward in interest. "If you can manage that, I'd text you every day." Kaden was mostly serious. The more he talked to Heather the more he became amused, she wasn't so bad. Despite her cigarette habit-that was slightly off putting. Despite the fact that she seemed to be trying to hide her twitching fingers. But every once in a while she would reach into her pocket.
"I'll keep that in mind Kayd." Heather tilted her head again, brushing her hair into her face. She bit her lip, looking away. Heather set her hands flat on the table, as if that would help her stop wanting to smoke. She could tell he really didn't like that habit of hers, even though she had worse ones.
Kaden's hand twitched towards Heather, but then he caught himself and kept his hands neatly folded on the table. They had both abandoned their food. He had been tempted to brush the hair out of her face, it bothered him since it looked nicer tucked back. But what ever, if she wanted to wear it that way--kudos to her. "Yeah. I'm so not getting used to being called that...I probably won't answer if you don't already have my attention."
Heather's voice seemed to get a bit flatter. "Well I'm not calling you by you're real name." She almost crossed her arms, but decided to leave them on the table. She clenched her jaw slightly, shaking her head. "Like I said, if you want me to call you something else that's fine." Heather glanced out the window, then back at him.
