I'm just curious. What is so nice about having an e-reader? I know you can get some free books, but the books I want to get cost more money than a regular paperback. What is the draw?

I think for me it's having lots & lots of books at hand since my Kindle goes everywhere with me...I used to carry a canvas bag with several books when going on vacation, weekend getaway, etc...now it's just my Kindle (comes in handy when waiting in bank lines, doctors office, post office...you get the idea).

it's an epub file and can be opened thru iPad ibooks. otherwise you need to install calibre to convert to mobi (for kindle) or pdf for anything else.

i don't get why it's free though.

You have always been able to borrow CD, but this is the Barnes and Noble version of the Kindle.

I knew that and I think they do the Kindle books too?

I had no idea. And I volunteer at the Library a couple days a week. DUH!! My dog Stewart Little (a Yorkie) is in the READ program. The little kids read to him, I tell the kids they are teaching Stewie how to read. LOL

If you type in free kindle there is a long list of freebies. I know I downloaded 8 books. I hadn't even exhausted them. Some were teasers, but most were full books.

Why is it always Kindle and not Kobo??

I wish I knew. The only reason I knew about the free kindle was it was because it showed on the front page. Why don't you put free Kobo and see what happens
