message 7: by Becky (new)

Becky I would love to read

Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

Its 945 pages, but it averages a 4.40 star on Goodreads. Not to mention that out of -nowhere- I had no less than 7 people tell I need to read it, preferably now. Seeing so many different types of people excited about the same book does make me smile but I'd much rather read it with a group!

If this isn't picked I'd love to read it with you...

message 9: by Jen (new)

Jen (jeninseattle) | 140 comments Lonesome Dove is one of my all time favorites. And even though it's long, it's very accessible.

message 10: by Ellen (last edited Aug 09, 2012 07:59PM) (new)

Ellen Librarian (ellenlibrarian) | 172 comments I'd like to nominate The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach.

It's "only" 528 pages but it's my understanding that 500 pages qualifies it as a chunkster.

I started reading it and it's excellent so far (about a third through). Several friends and family members raved about it, too.

This book is wonderful.

message 12: by Sam (new)

Sam (aramsamsam) I would like to nominate Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder. Most editions contain more than 500 pages (mine - German - is 622 pages long), some (mostly English, I guess) are only 400+. The original edition by Aschenhoug is 508 pages long (Sofies Verden: Roman Om Filosofiens Historie). I don't know if this qualifies as a chunkster...

message 13: by Ann Helen (new)

Ann Helen (bergenslabb) I would like to nominate We, the Drowned by danish author Carsten Jensen. I've wanted to read it for a long time, but I still haven't gotten around to it. The English edition is 688 pages.

message 14: by Tasha (new)

Tasha We, the drowned! I just added that to my tbr not long ago.

message 15: by Ann Helen (new)

Ann Helen (bergenslabb) If We, the Drowned isn't picked I would love to read Birds Without Wings. Louis de Bernières is one of my all time favourite writers, maybe THE favourite, and Birds Without Wings is one of two books of his I still haven't read.

message 16: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Ok, I have updated the Nominations list in the first post. I will be gone all weekend, so don't worry if it doesn't get updated this weekend. Can't wait to see what else we get to choose from! Have a good weekend!

message 22: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Why not, i'll throw in The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver .

message 23: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Kristy, feel free to nix this one if it is too short. It seems to be just over 500 pages.

message 24: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) No worries Tasha...500 pages is the cutoff, it's totally in!

message 25: by Tasha (new)
