One of my Narrator peers contacted ACX about the fact that the samples on the books are of such a lower quality than what we send and the finished result.

This is what they responded with:

Please note that Audible uses the same compression for all samples on their site, regardless of who or where it came from. Further, each sample is streamed at 64kbps, so it will not sound as high of a quality as the sample you provided us but customers are used to this and no that what they are streaming is not the same quality as what they are purchasing.

(The misspelling of "know" was theirs, BTW).

So please don't make your decision over the sample wherever possible. Go by things such as my VO Demos on my page. Most voice artists will have something similar these days.
