Radine's Friend Comments

Recently read: "Skunk Chronicles" by Dallas Collet. A friend talked me into reading this. Main character is a 12 year old boy, Trent Stone. His circle of friends (one of whom is killed early in the story) are secondary characters. It's about learning who caused the death of Trent's best friend, which makes it a mystery--but it's also about the escapades of young boys. Whoa! For example, how about shutting a lively skunk and three pooping chickens in the car of a teacher you hate? S'truth. They did. Reading this was a real adventure and I recommend it to everyone.

Recent reads: "The Woman Who Walked in Sunshine" by Alexander McCall Smith. I enjoy the sweet calmness and humanity of this series. It is filed as a mystery series though suspense is not a feature and there are no murders that I can recall. When I need a break and a change in my world view, A "Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" series fills the bill

Currently reading Kerry Greenwood's third Phryne Fisher novel..l"Murder on the Ballarat Train." I love this series and plan to read all 18. Got started with them because the Nehrings were watching the series on PBS. Books are recognizably the same, but, as would be natural, the print plot is more complicated. I am glad, however, that I have seen the shows on TV since characters are about the same and I can, therefore, picture them and locations as I read.

What am I reading right now? My own novel, A FAIR TO DIE FOR. (Final copies arrived here from Oak Tree Press about a week and a half ago.) Have I read it before in complete form? Um, probably around half a dozen times--excluding final edits. Okay, okay, I admit it, I still love the story, though the surprises throughout are no mystery to me at this point!
Others out there surely must enjoy reading their own novels. If we didn't like them, why would we foist them on the reading public?

Ghost in Trouble by Carolyn Hart. I love this series. Of course it's fantasy (or at least humans will think so) but it's entertaining as the dickens! Five stars from Radine
