R.M. Ambrose Great talk by Cory Doctorow yesterday at Cellar Door Books, and a huge turnout for 1:30 on a weekday. Best line of the day:

"We're being Huxleyed into the full Orwell."

R.M. Ambrose Had fun reading at Cellar Door Books for their Open Mic night on Saturday with a few other writers. I read the prologue from my work in progress, Legacy of Traydus, about prehistoric elves and dragons. I have posted it to my blog.

R.M. Ambrose I was not disappointed with Left Hand of Darkness. I've got to figure out how to work the Earthsea series into my reading list soon!

R.M. Ambrose The Hogwarts Board of Governors just isn't providing adequate oversight... This is a scandal of the highest order:

R.M. Ambrose I watched Ender's Game with a bunch of 8th graders (i.e., 13 year olds) and a couple other parents. The first thing we talked about when the lights came up was, what are they going to do for a sequel?

R.M. Ambrose John Scalzi

I especially encourage you to tip your hat to the newer nominees in the genre, because that tip of the hat can be both meaningful and useful to them. I’m a fan of making people aware of the next generation of the genre and the excellent writers in it.

Scalzi is nominated for the Goodreads Choice awards, but he has asked that we NOT vote for him. He gives a number of reasons, and closes them out with the statement quoted above. I think that's an awesome thing to do.
