Thank you for recommending A House Called Askival, will give it a try when I find a copy. Glad to see someone appreciates midnight is a place, I read it when I was around 9 and was also struck with the image of the snatcher. I found the book in a jumble sale when expecting my first child and have read it many times since ( he is now 15 ) It's a wonderful book to read aloud, has so many interesting elements, we were always fascinated by the idea of toshing and instantly realised what the saying 'what a load of tosh ' means ! I loved the coziness of the ice house and recorder playing. "I didn't much care for my slice of Clutterby pie " is a very well thought out ending for that character. I have only just discovered good reads, have found it really good so far, have discovered some great books, not completely sure how it works yet though ! Regards Hilary
