The story interested me of how August overcame his own difficulty and grew up. Wonder was a #1book on The New York Times Best Seller list and was also on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list when it was public.
August is a very nice and intelligent kid but unfortunately he has facial deformity and suffers severe social rejection. I felt deeply sorry for August when he stated himself as: “I won’t describe what I look like. Whatever you’re thinking. It’s probably worse.” August is a innocent kid but does the society give him a chance? August describes how cruel kid can be when they grow up compare to when they are little. The difference are the motivations and the intentions. It moves the audiences how a kid that age would analysis such things and its hurt him. One of my favorite lines of the story is when Jack asked August if he was always to look this way and August replied: “Hello? This is after plastic surgery.” It is sarcastic and humorous as the same time. Finally, Auggust finds a way to not stress himself about how he looks. In the play, he finally realized that he’s not the focus of attentions and that other things are more important than his look as well.
Throughout the book, there are lots of great precepts such as: “Your deeds are your monuments.”; “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.” For me, my favorite part of the book is about Via- August’s sister. It is funny how second child always get all the attentions of the parents. Via grew up lacking of parent’s concerns but she is not jealous for that. She truly cares for August. I find it’s quite interesting how Via wants to separate her life in high school from August. She is being honest and I am appreciate that.
In this story, Jack is a good friend of Auggie since day one. However, he hurts Auggies by accidentally saying bad stuff about Auggie behind his back. I supposed that Jack is still identifying between being a “cool” kid and being “real” to himself. Eventually, he decided which path he choose and he has grown up since then.
This book is a realistic fictions with so many solid, moral lessons. I recommend you to read the book because it will open your eyes in a different view. You will be amazed of how you can see through the eyes of a young child. ...more "
