" I choose to read this book because it’s such a classic and its practically a book everyone knows the gist of it (even without reading it) mainly because there are so many variations of it (especially movies or different versions of the book or plays) I choose to read this book because it’s such a classic and its practically a book everyone knows the gist of it (even without reading it) mainly because there are so many variations of it (especially movies or different versions of the book or plays). The book is basically starts off with two people falling in love even though they shouldn’t fall in love due to family issues. Soon, the two marry each other in private. Unfortantely, Juliet’s father arranged a marriage for Juliet and Paris, a wealthy male, and that they have to marry in a few days.
Soon, Juliet goes to Friar Lawerence to ask for a potion so she can fake her death by drinking a potion that was supposed to put her in a deep sleep (or coma) for a few days. Then Romeo comes across her and thinks that shes dead because the note Friar Lawerence was supposed to give Romeo never reached him. Romeo finds Paris pouring flowers over Juliet’s grave and ends up dueling him. Romeo manages to kill Paris and drinks a vial of poison nexts to Juliet. Juliet soon wakes up and realizes what has happened and killed herself by Romeo’s dagger and fell upon his dead body. In the end, the Capulets and the Montagues realize that their childern died to their feud and the families agree to end the feud.
Comparing Twelth Night and Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare has this common theme of love and miscommunication. It is annoying when the characters don’t communicate logically and how they have to creat this huge scheme and plan in order to do something but by doing so, you add this extra layer to the story. It keeps the reader and the people who are watching the play(s) engaged due to a interesting plot. There are a lot of things that I hated (especially when both of them died because one did not communicate to the other) but you go back to thinking that this is a classic. It’s a classic for a reason and how Shakespeare was ahead of his time. I know this isn’t something we could relate to today in current times but it definitely became a base to books and movies. ...more "
