Interesting, as nineteenth cenrury detective fiction, especially with a woman, middle-aged at that, as the co-protagonist.

As I was saying, Green is not the adept plotter that Christie is, so the book is long and rambling and repetitive in places. Luckily Amelia Butterworth herself is entertaining enough to get me through, I think, though it is slow going -- I would have eaten up five Christies in this time!

Amelia Butterworth is a terrific character -- reportedly she's the source for Miss Marple, but she's grumpier, nastier, more judgemental -- more like the Geraldine McEwan TV Miss Marple than Joan Hickson's elegant elderly lady, and less self-aware than Christie's Marple (which makes her narrative a wittier experience for the reader). Unfortunately Green is not the plotter that Christie was (who could be?).
