Status Updates From Drown

I’m leaving this book for now. I’ve been listening to it and one of the characters comes across as extremely whiny and I just can’t. It’s too bad, as the book seems pretty good and I think I would enjoy it with a different narrator or if I were eye-reading.

Nick is fucking toxic & I hate him.

Nick's kind of a douche.

Yooooo. I am vibing with the giddiness.

I had braced myself ... I imagined us arguing about whether or not it was a choice. I imagined them crying hysterically and blaming themselves, as if my faults were caused by something they had done. I imagined them scolding me for entertaining the idea of homosexuality. But no. None of that came. Instead, what I got was far worse:

They left me alone.

“Well, Erik, you do have a couple of tendencies,” she begins with a sigh. “When you talk, your hands dance at the wrist, you always speak with an upward inflection, and whenever you answer a phone call, you’re always greeted with a, ‘Good afternoon, Ma’am.’”
“You’re the only person that does that to me, Mackenzie.”
“Well, it’s always really confusing when I hear a woman answer your phone.”
