Things are difficult to comprehend because they are complicated, not because they are large. The task of properly understanding how atoms organized themselves - here on Earth and maybe on other worlds - into sentient creatures complex enough to question their beginnings is more difficult than anything else in cosmology. For that reason, I don't think it's arrogant to want to grasp our large-scale cosmos.

Man is . . . related inextricably to all reality, known and
unknowable . . . plankton, a shimmering phosphorescence on
the sea and the spinning planets and an expanding universe, all
bound together by the elastic string of time. It is advisable to
look from the tide pool to the stars and then back to the tide
pool again.

Your body will be declining for most of your life. Your relationships will
come and go. Material success can be lost. These things must all be icing on the
cake of your well-being. Nothing you gain in life is yours. Your psychological
software is your sole possession. It is the best investment you can make - one of
the few things you can start developing now and get to keep for the rest of your life.

The strength of a person’s spirit [can be] measured by how much truth
he could tolerate... to what extent he needs to have it diluted,
disguised, sweetened.

Things can hurt and not harm us.
In fact they can even be good for us. And things that feel good can be
very harmful to us.
You need to evaluate the effects of setting boundaries and be
responsible to the other person, but that does not mean you
should avoid setting boundaries because someone responds with
hurt or anger.

For the one who doesn’t understand the stages of growth, a
seed becoming a tree looks like destruction. When the soil squeezes
the shell until it shatters, it looks like punishment, like undeserved
pain. But the seed does not curse the sun and rain for breaking it
open, because it knows that its potential is far greater than the limit
of its shell.

If certain things and situations had not ended when they did, they could have very well prevented us from living life to our fullest potential. That's the victory!

Why is avoidance a boundary problem? at the heart of the struggle is a confusion of boundaries as walls. Boundaries are supposed to be able to "breathe", to be like fences with a gate that can let the good in and the bad out. Individuals with walls for boundaries can let in neither good or bad. No one touches them.
