why has this turned so devastating

these people need marie kondo in their life

did not expect takt's pov to be included, but it gives a different view of sara, so ig it works... what does *not* work is these ai snippets, they feel simply pasted in and not particularly insightful or important for the story.

loved the beginning about anglification issue, but now worry that these ai bot convos will make up half of the book :/

ciao Italy, we are now in India. this was going quite well, all zoned in on the benefits of meditation being dumbed down for me, but then my mind had to turn into a monkey, and tell me, why did i have to read the recent guardian article?? yes, the same Liz who was ommming in India when I was nearing my 1-year-old birthday is now telling us she wanted to murder her wife and how both were addicts and now idk what to do

it's amazing that the book tackles such an intimate, carnal part of Ukrainian history. just finding that there is nothing...new? the primary sources are fascinating, but it feels like i have heard all of this before. also, the conclusions in each chapter are repetitive and unnecessary as there's not that much info to recap.

i thought this couldn’t get any better, but here we have the burial of the patriarchs with “three confused-looking bearded men being rowed on a gondola by an elegant horse-woman with white moon-horns […] it is clear who is in control”.

this is better than watching a tv series

this is going to be one of the best books read this year. not a single story has lost its grip or ability to put me on the verge of tears.

the two smiles - must be my favourite case so far, both in terms of writing itself and the depth of reflection. absolutely fascinating to compare Yalom’s musings from the late 80’s on self-other boundary with some of the most recent findings in interpersonal synchrony and mind coupling. the problem of never truly being able to know another is beautifully illuminated. more to be added upon finishing the book.

this is too amusing, i should be writing my dissertation, not wanting to elope with a man to a little house in the middle of nowhere...

this is becoming a page-turner. i am gladly jealous of Leonora's life; it seems to be a polar opposite of how i would wish to... dare to? live. if i have dreams tonight, i want to dream being her.

also. this woman so brief with her comments. i need to know more! but, alas. i admire this: she lived her life, without trying to wrap it nicely for another eye, without telling much - for why don't we go live our own life

“beauty and the beast, or the enormous wound” - difficult to relate, but probably one of the most memorable stories and one that appeals to Society (yet still very much in Clarice’s tendency to focus on the internal).

side note: recurring images/words: search for an exit, eggs, female reproductive organs, ageing, smells/“delicious” sounds, independence from a man’s thought, dream-like structure.

“the departure of the train” - favourite story so far: it’s very Lispectorian, very introspective, engrossing parallel form (a young and an old woman), the unmistaken femininity, the escape to self-nurturing, - and all of this on the train.

love how many pictures there are. finally getting to know Leonora.

i can see how Yalom's approach and private thoughts could be shocking and even infuriating. but i'm growing some admiration for this man's frankness and the ability to not turn away from his client even if it is difficult to work with them. (tho i'd still argue that a therapist should not push themselves for the sake of overcoming countertransference and prove they can do anything if it's detrimental to their health)
