I know I haven't, but I feel like I've missed an entire novel of information already. It's written like this is a sequel so far, which is super distracting.

It kind of reads like poetry? I'm not mad about it, but I wasn't expecting it!

Yay! It reads like a fairytale!

There's no shortage of plot progression. Everything is moving ahead really steadily, which I'm deeply glad to see, and so far the characters are fairly consistent from how they've been throughout all three books.

Oooh, the second story was much better than the first! It read like a fairytale, and with all the prose and romantic language I could ask for. A rather happy ending too, which was surprising!

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about a collection of short stories, but so far Laini Taylor's writing is enjoyable. The stories aren't earth shattering or particularly poetic, but the illustrations are a lovely prologue that I wasn't expecting.

I didn't appreciate the first story's focus on r*pe, which honestly made the entire thing leave a bad taste in my mouth. I'm hoping the one I'm on now will be better.

The ACCENT. Gods, Mercedes Lackey is trying desperately to give the characters an appalacian accent and it's coming across a lot more like 'household staff of Gone with the Wind'. I'm desperately trying to claw my way through because otherwise the story would be fun.

This is haunting and I love it.

I have no idea how this is one of my partner's favorite books, but I'm going to get through the entire series. I'm glad it doesn't romantisize the parts it shouldn't.

This book has just about every Trigger Warning a book could have so far. I was aware of that going into it, but still...I guess I didn't quite -expect- it?

It's a MUCH faster pace. It feels a bit like a set-up for the rest of the series, rather than a book of its own?

I had a lot of fun with the Caraval series, and knowing the author's writing style I at least know what to expect.

...never mind, it's not an LGBT story. In fact, she's ~secretly straight~. I feel like this is such a MASSIVE queer bait? I was so excited for triad romance...

UGH if she falls for a brunette, 'tan' boy I'm going to take it personally.

Additionally, the terms used to describe the society unfortunately make it feel very juvenille. 'Sleeping Sickness', 'Choosing Ceremony', etc. I have a feeling this would be an INCREDIBLE adult fantasy. I'm excited to see how the triad/sapphic background influences what I'm expecting will be a love triangle.

This took no time at all to leap IMMEDIATELY into the plot. haha 'leap'
In this alien society "The City in the Sky" is an all female society, where romantic 'triads' are the norm. The Green mother is the educator, the Orange mother is the religious influence, and the Purple mother is both birth mother & nurturer. There's 0 dancing around the fact that this is an LGBTQ fantasy.

I'm pretty disappointed so far. Where's the Elizabeth I expected? There's little wit or banter, just simpering and fond looks, and not even a hint of animosity between the two. It evaporated within three days of them getting married??? I was hoping for a proper forced-marriage fanfic, and instead I got just the sugar part of sweet and sour sauce.

The beginning of the book has been a rushed version of Pride and Prejudice, up until the ball at Netherfield. (In this version, the dance Elizabeth shares with Darcy is what leads to the 'special license' when they're thought to be SMOOCHIN' instead of talking.)

Not bad, sitting steady at two stars so far. We'll see how the actual meat of the book holds up. So far it's a decent fanfic.

Nope, I don't think I'm going to be finishing it. Not only is it not catching my attention, but the characters feel almost like a caricature? I'm also COMPLETELY unable to figure out how old the protagonist is supposed to be. He reads like an adolescent, but he's driving (stealing?) cars, and his younger sister has a car of her own?
