This book is blowing my mind. I don't even know where to start.

I started by listening to this novel, but I think that I'm going to need to pick it up and read it, if not starting over at the beginning, then at least to finish it. My narrator (librivox volunteer) is understandable and pleasant to listen to, but I think a lot of inflection and tension is lost through her slow pacing and equivalent weight on each word. The story is starting to chill, nonetheless.

Very compelling novel.

I feel like this book would be great for the well-read 6th grader, whom I believe is the intended audience. The book very lightly references other mythologies and Shakespeare and I think a middle-schooler would be thrilled to pick up on the somewhat-subtle references. The book is mainly narrated by our two protagonists, who are both young and have action-filled lives, so the pace is engaging and the prose is lively

I am enjoying the audiobook version so far. I've never watched the TV series, never read any of the books. And no, James Marsters does not sound like Spike on this recording (thank goodness). He does, however, bring some marvelously sardonic passages to life with his humorous inflections and he enacts the physical actions described in the text (taking a deep breath, gritted teeth when speaking, etc.) I like it.
