Savory mouthfuls of Azath lore. Om nom nom.. nom.

Absolutely immersed in this chapter. Crazy to me that Erikson can still deliver this level of satisfaction through his information plots and lore exposition. You learn some pretty interesting stuff about the history of this world with BotF and it all gets expanded in depth during all the prequels and sequels, each one written with incredibly gratifying execution.

Diggin' it. (Get it? Erikson was an archaeologists. Archaeologists DIG a lot, get it? It's funny because I'm saying I dig the book and Erikson used to dig a lot. I'm a comedic GENIUS).

Trying to limit how much I share in these updates as to avoid spoilers for others.

Big fan of Nub.

Really enjoyed this nice little recap of events told through dialogue which also acts as a set-up for the new myths evolving. A++

Chapter Six was crazy good. I want to spoil everything by talking about how cool it was, but all I'll say is; I fucking love Rant. Erikson, you better not kill him.

'The buzz of the flies was almost deafening at the mouth of the cave. Damisk could see that the path leading inward sloped down to impenetrable darkness, bedrock worn by the passage of feet, paws, whatever. That path made him pause,'

Unsure if it's intended (it probably is) but I love these types of puns. Small and subtle, but fun to catch.

Chapter 3... What an excellent introduction to Rant's character. Wasn't expecting any of this.

Erikson's set-up game is goddamn marvelous.

With No Life Forsaken set to drop near the end of October, I figured I best get to reading the first book. I was hoping to put this off until I'd read all of Esslemont's contributions, but due to the realities of life, now feels right.

As I do when starting any Malazan book; I feel elated with anticipation for what is to come.

A Year and a Day in Old Theradane by Scott Lynch 5/5 Superb!

I really enjoyed this short. It had me laughing while invested in the immersion of discovery. Excellent prose. I really need to start reading his longer works.

I'm not really sure what to say in regards to what I just read. I feel a bit sad, and that's hard to do in 18 pages. I really enjoyed the set-up and general story beats, but I felt like the story ended at its midpoint.
I want climax and resolution!

Will read more, so long as I have this out on loan from my public library.

Maybe this short wasn't for me? Absolutely dreaded finishing it, and I don't have a single good thing to say about it.

What Do You Do? by Gillian Flynn 3/5

Never have I ever been so drawn in by an introductory sentence. I didn't expect this type of story coming into this anthology, but it got me gigglin' quite a bit. I was captivated the whole way through, but didn't feel much satisfaction with the ending. Thus a 3.

On to the next!

I didn’t stop giving hand jobs because I wasn’t good at it. I stopped giving hand jobs because I was the best at it.

Alright ... not the opening I expected after reading the first story. Fully support the artistic direction. Wild, as the youth say.

Tough Times All Over - Joe Abercrombie 4/5

I feel like I should have read more of Abercrombie's books to fully appreciate this little novella, but it was very well written and Abercrombie always does a wonderful job captivating my imagination. I dearly hope to see more of Javre, Lioness of Hoskopp, when I return to his works -- her scenes gave me a good ol' giggle.
