Private equity is just wild. Some of these methods to siphon wealth and strip companies are even more shocking and blatant than I expected them to be and I really didn't have high expectations when digging into this chapter

premise and first chapter were really uncomfortable. weird constant 'as a man' and masculine energy statements, and the relationship build up is kind of from an odd perspective. that said, all the rosy descriptions with the underlying sense of dread are really really good and everything is somehow giving a rosy but uneasy feeling. finding it really funny to imagine a group of 13 year olds talking in this way though

interesting learning about how the 'left-wing' parties were captured by the third-way compromise of social welfare policies but in collaboration with extremely pro-business policies, and enabling tax havens and loosening antitrust laws

Really liking the spider web analogy in helping understanding of the system as well as the link to how the rot in the offshore financial systems enabled the rot at the heart of the empire. Struggling to understand the bretton woods part of the book, need to research about that.

Insane that the Cayman islands became the 5th biggest banking centre in the world!
