Enjoying this way more than the first time I attempted it but it still bothers me that they're making games in the 90s that feel more like indie games from the 2010s.

Not to be pedantic but Persona didn't really have the cultural cache that this novel suggests it had in the late 90s. The way it's written about sounds more like Persona 3 onwards.

Finally an author dares to ask, "What if we made Goodbye Dragon Inn into a literary novel, and made it as boring as possible?"

At one point they write that a character is playing Resident Evil on her Nintendo, which could either be the Resident Evil 2 port on the Nintendo 64 or Resident Evil remake on the Gamecube.

This is really good but I do think it's funny how Brooks starts by telling the reader how important failure is to an artist and then goes on to describe success after success after success

Always interesting to see how historical events are covered in books that only tangentially mention them. Gavin describes the entire country of Afghanistan as al-Qaeda's "headquarters" which is just so wrong in a lot of ways.

I'm always excited to read the descriptions of the lavish settings in Agatha Christie novels and I always forget that she is not one of those mystery writers who values atmosphere. This really could have been set anywhere, change a few lines and it's Death somewhere else.

This is so vague so far that it's basically meaningless.

One sentence he introduces a girl and the next sentence he's talking about her breasts then keeps talking about her breasts
