Krystina is on page 90 of 328 of The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales
Current thoughts: I don't think the author was particularly reputable, but I am enjoying this book so far. I just want everyone to know that even if I end up giving it a good rating, I am aware of the author's legitimately controversial background.

This is a very sad book. But I think I like it because of its sadness.

Not really sure how to rate this one. Hmm. I guess the plot was okay, but I think there was a lot of writing in this book that has aged poorly, and it was very uncomfortable to read.

I really don't know what to think of this book! Parts were interesting, but the plot seems very complicated. I'm still not entirely sure what happened, lol!

I'm enjoying the subject matter, but I've started to notice that the author sometimes uses rather long sentences, and it's annoying. These could easily be broken up into smaller ones, and the flow of the text would be easier to follow. There's also been a few times when the author has used an odd choice of words (for example, using the term "twilight of an era" to mean the time before the era started).

It's not awful, but there's definitely something about the writing style that feels way too modern, and that throws me off. A fellow reviewer said this book could just as easily have been set in 1930, and I agree. It might've worked better, I think. This'll probably be a 3 star book.

Younger me was very irritated by the amounts of swearing and some of the young teenage romance stuff. I'm re-reading the series, and I've only come across 6 swear words, maybe. Hardly a large amount! And the "teenage romance stuff" isn't even *that* annoying anymore. I'm glad I'm re-reading these books. If anything it reminded me of how I used to be very wrong about a lot of stuff!
