it's funny how the heroine is framed as a bit dumb, self-centered and friendless, but while the MMC is digging his own grave his friends are just whistling and looking the other way

The fmc should just run amok at this point

the thing about toxic relationships is I am more disgusted with myself for reading this than with the book for being like this

why is this so tough to read

I read a book that was "unpublished" and I think the author must be tech-savvy as well because they wiped the record completely: goodreads, way back machine, amazon links, all gone.

I hate when that happens because all books should have a record and this basically amounts to book-burning

This is honestly such a good book

Zilinsky is really such a clever writer

Ngl the MMC is the dumbest brick I've seen in a while and I blame him for 100% of the BS that happened to the FMC so far

This is the first time in years that I've seen an omniscient narrator. They've become so rare!

This first part I've read chronicles the boys at ages 10 through 18, so it'd be easy to say "nothing happened yet" in this novel, but I really appreciate the author taking the time to create her characters before she lets WWI break them down. It's a lost art at this point.

Crazy fantasy stuff in this fic:
*medical debt
*nursing school costs money
*girls going into prostitution to pay bills
*bus only comes twice a day

also, as a bonus
*patients getting to see their doctors on short notice

All of these are obviously wild nonsense but I enjoy the ride and applaud the author's creativity
