I’m really liking this gay poet and also surprisingly the writing? It’s full of long poetic sentences and tangents but I’m kind of into it

Wow this book has really upped the game. No longer juvenile, the switch to teen and young adult confrontations of core ethical beliefs is wild to see. I appreciate seeing just how much growth this series asks of its reader.

this book is insane

I’m not sure if I ever finished this book as a kid… I remember the last time I tried to reread this series the tone of this book put me off and I think I just put the book down. I can already see why, it’s quite harsher than books 1-3 but as an adult I think the commentary on this is taking shape, hopefully it doesn’t get obtuse!!

But part 2 is quite nice actually. I’ll cover this more in my review but if part 2 had been first, this book probably would be a hit for me.

Wait why am I kind of liking part 2?? Their relationship is cute? But like I cannot support part 1, im fine with kissing a murderer but draw the line at SA

Challenging myself to get halfway through part 2 today… the magic system in this book is insanely incomprehensible. How am I this far in and I’m still confused by all these alchemy type names. Luckily they clearly don’t matter, except for a plot device for this handmaids tale turn this book is taking.

Is this book allergic to action verbs why are there 11 straight alternating lines of dialogue and NOTHING about the scene or action verbs or anything how is this book so hyped I don’t get it

“No one ever talks about the really hard part of first contact with intelligent alien life: pronouns. I’m going to go with ‘he’ for now, because it seems rude to call a thinking being ‘it.’”

Supposedly super smart science guy has never heard of neopronouns, non binary people, or how sex + gender are not the same. They, xe, it, come on there are so many options. Ugh.
