Today was baking day as I begin sampling some recipes for Jessie's Dickens party in A Hartmann Ranch Christmas. Found a 100 year old recipe for gingerbread. It was incredibly moist and not overly sweet, just right. Think this is the one she'll be serving December 25, 1891. I'll pin the recipe to the Pinterest page for the book, and look for a post on Instagram. Yum!

Lena is learning about herself through the observations of her friends. Maddie affirms her when she says, "Kind hearts nurture kindness in others." Wouldn't that be a wonderful thing to hear from our friends? To be known for kindness is a nice epitaph, I think.

I'm working on another revision for A Hartmann Ranch Christmas today as fog rolls in yet again. I'm imagining it's snow. That's not too difficult. I have gingerbread cookie batter chilling that I'll pop in the oven this afternoon. It should provide for some olfactory inspiration to write in a few more delicacies to include in Jessie's Christmas feast.

I just finished the last chapter of A Hartmann Ranch Christmas! It feels great. The last chapter made me cry for happy. Although I only write one steam kettle worth of heat, I think it's plenty swoon-worthy.

I'm hoping those who love the Hartmann family will find some unexpected but happy surprises here. I did.

Yesterday's writing session ended on Christmas Eve, 1890 with the two young lovers walking through sparkling snow back to the Hartmann ranch house. And there are puppies in the barn, four lively Border Collies, a perfect Christmas for the Scottish shepherd, Graham Kincaid, if Milicent can part with one.
