sometimes i'm like "classics are far more approachable than how other people, particularly non-readers perceive them, most of the time they were written for the common audience bla bla" and then i open what is apparently a book less than 300 pages and it has a chronology, introduction, notes on the text, 2 other separate introductions, a preface, 3 different appendixes and a notes section. so. mb i guess.

got gifted this back in high school but am reluctant to donate this to the local community library thingy w/o reading this so giving it a 100 page chance! i'm not into these type of books anymore + the repeated allegations of tiffany d jackson being a zio is not helping BUT let's see!

quite a few books this year have really reinforced to me how the absence of editors in the publishing industry have eroded the quality of books and it's looking like this one is an example of it unfortunately.

i should note I am finding this incredibly repetitive. that doesn’t make it bad because the writing of it is good. but it is starting to feel like hey maybe this could have been 50 pages less.

joseph heller be like oh fantastic satirical take-down of war as eroding individualism, war as a business of profit, discussions of sanity and insanity, morality, the ludicrousness of nationalism bla bla WOMAN AS A WALKING PAIR OF TITS, all men fantasise and have sex dreams of violently assaulting women, “the amazing place was a fertile, seething cornucopia of female nipples and navels.”

this is really good but actually would be great if it wasn't filled with shit tons of misogyny but also like... i do see why despite me having a great time reading this- patience is a virtue and needed to read this book. i fear not having patience or getting with this is the reason why so many people fucking hate this book.
