So far, I’ve learned that we need to distinguish between free and genuine expression of masculinity and patriarchal masculinity.
Patriarchal masculinity tells men that they are not valued by society unless they are in control - both of themselves and others. This translates to dominating and degrading those with perceived weakness - women, children and men who do not align with patriarchal masculinity.
