"The grief and pain that he had done nothing to stop it, even though he didn't know how."

idk if I've read anything worse than this:
"Normally, no one broke the rules.
But not this time."
Simple fix: "Normally, everyone followed the rules. But not this time." Or: "Normally, no one broke the rules. But this time was different." Or literally anything other than what was actually published, because that is such a clunky sentence.
