Well, if Hadrian isn't the most insufferable character ever put to page, I don't know who is. I will try to soldier on, but when I find myself arguing with the book multiple times per chapter, it is not a good sign.

This was my reaction as well. I didn't get very far with this one, and I had been really excited about this series.

He sucks in the first 1-2 books. Then there’s a paradigm shift. He changes and develops over the course of his very long life which I appreciate and seems to be a realistic expectation. People change as they grow older and mature…now imagine that maturity over the course four hundred years. Book 1 is my low point of the series. Stick with it. I think you will be happy you did.

People chan..."It's not about his immaturity. I completely understand character growth. It's the way he is delivered as a character. The constant repetition and self indulgent pontificating.
I completely get why folk love this story, just like I get why folk love KKC. But I just don't think this one is for me.
