A tiny thing that is pissing me off: why is the author over-using the term "female" when talking about Everlayne? I thought maybe it's because "woman" is a human word that fae don't use but Everlayne says "women" when talking about fae fashion? The writing is super jarring when a simple "she" or "the fae woman" would sound so much better in these sentences

Right? Heroines always 'never eat enough'. Women can't have a healthy appetite because god forbid they take up space

I think the thing that pissed me off the most about this one is that she has stressed that her home doesn't have a lot of food or water. If she's been deprived for so long and now has a constant source of sustenance, it would be more believable that she eats a lot and/or hoards food even.
I actually couldn't keep up with all the illogical thinking/inconsistencies in this book so have fun discovering them all.Re. the use of 'male' and 'female' I have this horrible nagging feeling that the author might be gender essentialist, but then I read a bit of When The Moon Hatched and it was used there as well...
Also yes Kingfisher is a stupid name and no you won't get used to it. There was a David Attenborough documentary on the other day that had a kingfisher in it and I thought "how many women are watching this and getting aroused I bet it's a non-zero amount"
