Okay, so it's not as long as it seems and it's also just very painfully middling the entire time and one of those strange overly moralistic tales that I can never really pin down. The motivations of our characters are non existent. You could have had the entire first portion be a brief prologue. I was giving this so much slack because I thought it was middle grade fiction. NOPE. This is marketed towards adults.
