A re-read. Despite GR’s erroneous recent postings I haven’t looked at this book in years. I remembered only the most basic highlights. The rest is like new.
His writing is beautiful. Metaphors and similes snap with colors and contours. The movie is good but the book is 100x more - deeper and thicker and richer. Bats crack, baseballs sing, ball mitts thump, cut grass brings the sting of green to my nostrils.

"God what an outfield," he says. "What a left field."
He looks up at me and I look down at him.
“This must be heaven," he says.
"No. It's Iowa," I reply.

Hey Jude 🌿:) the extra amount of detail is amazing and all the chats with JD Salinger (Catcher in the Rye) on their long drives makes for an exceptional literary experience and a terrific romp through the imagination.
