Reading DADoES - Chapter 7

Isdore climbed the darkened stairs back to his apartment. He donned his white work uniform and headed to work on his battered hovercar. An hour later, he picked up a malfunctioning cat from a customer. It panted erratically and was dying. Isodre tried to soothe its pain. But either the control panel or battery cables could be found on the cat. He gave up, and it ceased its panting.

Isodore descended downstairs to greet his neighbour. A young girl opened the door in only pyjama bottoms. Isodore told her he could help her move furniture from the other apartments after work because the ones in her apartment were all rotted away. She accepted his help. Her name was Rachael Rosen at first, but she changed it to Pris Stratton after Isodore's astonishment.

Reading DADoES - Chapter 5

Rick was snared by the trap set up by the two Rosens. He knew he fucked it up. They tried to blackmail him using the owl as the carrot and his mistake as a stick. Before they left the room so he could consider his decision, Dick asked her for one last test. It was a decisive proof that she was an android. After Eldon heard his answer, he slumped to the floor, confirming the answer.

After Nick tested Rachel on a couple of social situations. He evaluated that Sarah was an Android. But she was not. His uncle evinced, the one who grew up aboard Salander 3 (a spaceship), so her emotional reaction was different from that of an average person. Nick began packing his testing gear into his briefcase. He was told to cancel further testing once a test failed.

Rick began the Voigt-Kampff test on Rachael. He would outline a number of social situations, and her reaction would be gauged. Rachael knew that her verbal responses wouldn't count. Solely the eye-muscle and capillary reaction would be marked as indices. Two questions were asked the twin gauges in the apparatus flickered past green to red. He made a note of the results.

Rick and Rachael descended into the building. Eldon Rosen approached and greeted Rick. Rick realised that what happened in the next hour would have a significant impact on the operation of the Rosen Association. And Rachael and Eldon were both afraid of Rick. They came to a chic cubicle. As Rick prepped his apparatus for testing. Rachael revealed that she would be the first test subject.

Dick Deckard landed his hovercar on the roof of the Rosen Association Building, meeting Rachael Rosen. He yearned at the sight of different animals inside a pen. Even the extinct owl was found to be inside. Rachael said that they got it from private parties. And a hatred manifested itself toward his electric sheep, which he had to tend, had to care about, as if it lived.

Dave's boss, Bryant, informed Rick that he would be acting as a senior bounty hunter. He wanted Rick to go to Seattle and test the Nexus-6 units with the Voigt-Kampff test. Several humans would be included in the test. A group of psychiatrists in Leningrad suggested that some schizoids wouldn't be able to pass. And that would be a disaster, for they would have no reliable analytical tool.

At Nine-thirty, Rick hurried to Bryant's office. He saw both Bryant's receptionist and secretary, but neither of them spoke to him, nor did he speak to them. Opening the inner door, he nodded to his superior, who was busy on the phone, talking to Inspector Bryant. He seated himself, reading the specs on Nexus, which he had brought with him.

The Voigt-Kampff Empathy Test, the bane of every Andy, had seemingly caught every android it came across. For androids didn't have empathy, they couldn't comprehend someoneelse's joy or sadness. As in a carnivore, empathy impaired a predator's survival. So Rick liked to think of them as a bunch of killers; it made his job palatable.
