I wasn’t expecting to see so much vulnerability in a book that makes heavy use of research on famous alcoholics.

I knew it was gonna take me awhile to read this, but it’s worth it every time I return. I especially love how much Leslie Jamison focuses on the nature of stories and storytelling.

This is fairly engrossing and I love the tour of literary figures and their alcoholism. And what Leslie Jamison says about how stories aren’t unique but instead are things that have been lived before and will be lived again. But it is a foreign concept, to me, to read about seeking out suffering for the sake of gravity.
