I think it's more than rather cheeky naming the book after Mussorgsky's famous work.
He composed all 10 movements of the music for his most famous work Pictures at an Exhibition after admiring a collection of Hartmann's paintings in 1874. Surely Macpherson could have come up with an original title that didn't infringe on this masterpiece.
