Read with excitement the first few writings included here: Nature, American Scholar, An Address, Transcendentalist — as well as a few of the first series of essays: History, Self-Reliance, Compensation, Circles. One gets Emerson’s thrust in these alone; truthfully, they all seem to be getting at the same idea... with varying success. I hope to write on these futurely, but presently am weary of this repetition.
