I finished Japan and the West part. I liked all three stories. I particularly enjoyed the first by Tanizaki Jun'ichirō. I am making my way through the Loyal Warriors part and I am surprised to be enjoying the second story by Mishima Yukio this much.

I am still reading this. The short stories are really good but better read a little staggered for me.

I am reading short stories to get myself going. First, Sōseki's Sanshirō's extract was so lovely to read, I am excited to read the book next.
Kōno Taeko's "In the Box" was so lovely, so poignant, and delightful. I want to read that narrative voice more. Maybe, I should check Kōno's writing more.
Murakami's "The 1963/1982 Girl from Ipanema" was great. There's a reason why I like his short stories so much.

Bought this for retail therapy and nostalgia.
I will probably use this function to write what I think about each short story as I read. I started with Nagai Kafū's "Behind the Prison" (tr. Rubin). It was a lovely story. I am glad I read Murakami's introduction about it because that helped contextualize it. This story is a bit out of my scope tho. I solid 3-3.5 for me, even though I resonate a lot with it.
