Pi has just realized why there were teeth in the leaves he was peeling. He realized the island was acidic and carnivorous. This scares him and makes him decide that he would rather die from physical reasons and still have his mind in check. I personally thought him deciding to leave the island was risky enough, but he also decided to bring Richard Parker!

Pi finally started the story of how his ship sunk and explained why he was on a life boat with a tiger. I do not know where he will go from hear because they are already in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, but I think him and the tiger will come to a neutral compliance to survive.
