Tom Vanstone The India and Pakistan area was divided because of the British government where it was split into India, and east and west Pakistan. Both believe they should rule the Kashmir region. East Pakistan fell apart and became Bangladesh

Tom Vanstone Kashmir is important to India so that it can border Afghanistan and cut ties between Pakistan and China, whilst Pakistan wants Kashmir to improve relations with China and allow for easy trade.

Tom Vanstone China invested in the port of Gwadar in Pakistan as it would like an alternative route for its energy needs so that it needn’t become too dependent on the Strait of Malacca, an area that is heavily influenced by the West.
