The Border Series: Box Set

Rate this book

The first three books plus a bonus prequel novella in the bestselling Border Series: The Ward's Bride, The Thief's Countess, The Lord's Captive and The Chief's Maiden.

THE WARD'S BRIDE: PREQUEL NOVELLA

English knight Sir Adam Dayne is offered the ultimate prize by the earl who raised him: lordship of Langford castle. All he must do is accept a betrothal to the Scottish Marcher warden's beautiful daughter. Sir Adam relishes the prospect - until he meets the woman he is to wed.

Lady Cora Maxwell hates everything English, including the self-assured new lord who has claimed her hand in marriage. Desperate to return home to Scotland, Cora displays increasingly outrageous behavior in the hopes of dissuading the Englishman from the marriage. But when Adam proposes a unique challenge, Cora is forced to face her greatest fears and the burgeoning desire he has awakened in her.

THE THIEF'S COUNTESS: BOOK ONE

Sir Geoffrey has dedicated his life to exacting revenge on the men who killed his parents and stole his birthright. Just when he’s on the verge of success, his uncle asks him to put his plans on hold to help protect a wealthy countess. It’s a distraction Geoffrey resents, even more so when he meets a gorgeous, complicated and alluring lady who is everything he’d want in a woman—and everything he can’t have.

Lady Sara Caiser's father’s deathbed request was for two lawless border reivers to serve as her protectors. Despite her misgivings, an undeniable attraction pulls her into Sir Geoffrey’s arms. The man she thought nothing more than a thief is more dangerous than she believed, for he’s noble, caring and sinfully attractive, but Sara must decide what’s more important—her duty or her heart.

THE LORD'S CAPTIVE: BOOK TWO

Sir Bryce Waryn has dreamed for years about the day when he will finally liberate his home from the Scots who stole his brother’s birthright, but something unexpected stands in his way—the sister of the Scot who held Bristol. Bryce takes her captive, hoping to exact an even more satisfying revenge on his enemy, except the fiery beauty is far more compelling than he would like…

Lady Catrina Kerr knows a thing or two about stubborn men, but Bryce is also maddeningly handsome, brave, and kind—but no matter how compelling her captor, she’s intent on escaping him. Only then will she be able to protect her brothers. But as Bryce’s plan escalates and her feelings for him intensify, she finds herself facing an unthinkable choice between her family and the man who has captured her heart.

THE CHIEF'S MAIDEN: BOOK THREE

The Scottish king gives Toren Kerr a dangerous mission—kill the English Warden. When he travels to England to participate in the Tournament of the North as a cover for his mission, he’s immediately drawn to a beautiful, mysterious Englishwoman. . . only to discover she’s the warden’s daughter.

When Lady Juliette Hallington's protective father agrees to send her to the tournament, she recognizes her chance to avoid an arranged marriage. But after meeting Toren, Juliette begins to realize real life is more complicated than tales of love—and the very thing she wants most might consume everything she holds dear.

An exciting collection of stories by the amazing Cecelia Mecca. You will be drawn into a world of strong allegiances to England or Scotland which can often end in battle or alliances of the heart. I read each of these stories on their own.
The Ward's Bride - This prequel is the beginning of a "Border Series" and sets the tone. The year is 1245 and In a bid to bring peace between the Scots and the English with a Day of Truce. It was the day Sir Adam, an Englishman was awarded Cora, daughter of the Scottish Lord Maxwell to strengthen the truce. A sweet story follows which make you eager to read more!
The Thief's Countess - This was the full book in "The Border Series". But this will not be the last! It drew me in right from the start. Sir Geoffrey and his uncle come to aid Lady Sara from siege in her home. She has been left without a protector since her father died. There is an attraction between Geoffrey who is naught but a Riever "thief" and Sara. The story is very well written and I could not wait to find out what happened next!!
The Lord's Captive - This is the second book in The Border Series and is as good if not better than the first! This story is about Bryce, brother of Geoffrey in the first book. Bryce and his men have taken back his family castle which was raided and captured by the Scottish Kerr clan 5 yrs ago. In the raid Lady Catrina Kerr ended up separated from her clan and was taken as hostage by Bryce. What follows is a wonderful story about Bryce and Sarah as they struggle to come to terms with their attraction. I could not put this book down and you will not either!!
The Chief's Maiden - Cecilia Mecca has created another intriguing tale with this third installment of the Border Series. You are captured from the first page and not let go until the end. Scotsman, Toren Kerr, Chief of Clan Kerr, has been given orders by the king to kill Stewart Hallington, English Lord Warden. Toren attends the Tournament of the North,so that he can come in contact with Hallington and carry out his orders. While walking around the tournament, he rescues a maiden who is running from the advances of a knight. It does not take long for Lady Juliette Hallington to become attracted to the strong knight and she is determined to get close to get to him. . Being pushed by her father to marry as soon as she returns home, she is determined to find a husband who she can love. When Toren finds out that Juliette is the daughter of Stewart Hallington, he feels torn as he begins to have feelings for her. The author pulls you into the strong emotions of the characters as the story unfolds
After you read these you will want to continue with the rest of the series. Each one is as good if not better than the last!! When I see Cecelia Mecca as the author, I know that the story will be a must read!

This is a collection of Cecelia Mecca stories.
The Ward's Bride (Border, #0.5)
I really liked this story. It is a novella but didn't appear too short. It is well written, Cora and Adam are both like-able characters, you can understand how both feel in this unexpected situation. He is Alpha but also considerate and she appears timid and shy but is a 'hellion'. Some parts really made me laugh.
Book two is out soon and i will definitely read it.

The Thief's Countess (Border #1)

I loved the prequel to this book 'The Ward's Bride' so I was eager to read this book.

Lady Sara Caiser, finds herself enslaved to her duty and her life ruled by men. Her father has died and made requests on his deathbed for her to have the protection of his friend from his youth and his nephew who are now lawless border reivers.

Sir Geoffrey, is a misplaced man who goes along with his uncle to protect the wealthy countess, Sara and he is not happy about it.

Both parties have their issues with the situation and both feel an attraction but each for different reasons feel they need to fight it.
There is an interesting group of friends and almost family who add extra warmth to the plot.
This book is well written. Well worth giving it a try.

The Lord's Captive (Border #2)

I wasn't very fussed on this story.
I didn't particularly like the Hero or the heronie.

The Chief's Maiden (Border #3)

Toren's story.
We see a different side to him from book 2.
He is honourable or tries to be.
It's a sweet story.

What a fantastic Medieval Series this is. Although each book is a standalone read, the same characters can be found in future books which allows us to follow their lives from one generation to the next. I have read, and loved, every one of these individual books! Strong heroes and heroines overcome many trials to reach true love, while remaining true to themselves. I will continue following this author for a long while to come. Well done Cecelia!

For a historical Scottish romance this book/series was fire!! I absolutely loved every second of it, I know this genre isn’t overly popular but don’t let it deter you from a great read. The characters are strong in spirit and will and have some amazing quirkyness to them that give them life and stand out from each other, If your looking for something with heart and honor this series is for you!

An enjoyable read

An interesting set of medieval romances. The author invokes a feeling of the horrors of the cross-border battles in Medieval times. Enjoyed the descriptions of the countryside, the manors and castles. The hero's and heroines are strong characters who stand up for what they want something that many could not do.

exciting and interesting

I really enjoyed the 3rd book in this series. It was intriguing, and I read it all day on a Saturday afternoon. The chief becomes involved with a woman he’s falling in love with when he discovers she is the daughter of the man the king had ordered him to kill. It gets scary and messy.

Border troubles

A nice collection of stories about Border Lords. While well written, after a while, it seemed like the same story with only a few changes. Nevertheless, it was great fun to read, which is why I’m giving it 5 stars.

the first .5; 1 and 2 are not too bad and run quite quickly and enjoyable; but #3 chugged along and kept being diverted (I guess to add more pages) to more situations. I hope to try some more of the series because Cecelia is a good writer.

This is a great opportunity to get the prequel novella and first three books of the Border Series in one place! I've read them all independently and have copied my reviews below.

The Ward's Bride:
I came across the prequel when it was being offered for free. Free is my favorite four lettered word. Plus, I like romance novels set in this time period so I thought "Why not?" I really wasn't expecting much since it was a free offering, but WOW! As soon as I finished (at 3:00 am because I couldn't put it down) I tried to order the next book in the series. Imagine my dismay to discover that it wasn't released yet. I just hate waiting! Go ahead and get this book. You wont regret it. Its a great introduction to the series.

The Thief's Countess:
I just finished reading The Thief's Countess and was not disappointed. I came across the prequel which was being offered for free at the time so I downloaded and read it. I immediately searched for The Thief's Countess, but it hadn't been released yet. Once it was I scooped it up. I was only able to start reading it a few days ago because, well...life. in any case, I finally read it and was NOT disappointed. This is a sweet love story that has some steamy sex (but not over the top). I'm looking forward to the next one in this series. It's probably a good thing that the complete series hasn't been released yet because I'm sure I'd binge read the whole thing and I have finally exams coming up...

The Lord's Captive;
I read The Lord's Captive in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down! It's the latest in the continuing story of the Border Series, but it's not necessary to read the other books first. This is a stand alone book with its own HEA. It's a great story with lots of complex situations. It's easy to put yourself in the situation and realize that there are two sides to every story. Ms. Mecca does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and making them believable. I especially like that the female characters are strong and have a backbone. I look forward to the next book and hope to see more of the characters that were introduced in this book.

The Chief's Maiden:
This series just seems to keep getting better and better! I really have enjoyed reading all of these books in the Border Series. By the way, they don't need to be read in order to follow along. They are all stand alone books with happily ever afters and no cliffhangers. Ms. Mecca brings the characters to life with her writing. I find myself transported to the time and place. Other than pure talent, I think it must be that she does so much research beforehand. She must in order to be able to do that, I believe. I am already really looking forward to her next book.

The Ward’s Bride: This is the first book I have read by this author, and I was pleasantly surprised. It has all the elements of a good historical romance with a stubborn heroine and sexy, strong minded hero. Even though Lady Cora was bartered in exchange for peace between warring nations, she has a mind of her own and her loyalties remain with Scotland and her family. She finds that the husband she meets at the altar is a surprise but is unable to change her mindset to accept the marriage. Adam is an honourable man and goes the extra mile in wooing his wife, trying to win her over by charm rather than force. A charming romance that tugged at my heartstrings .
The Thief’s Countess: An exciting, sensual read that kept my attention all the way. through. The pull of emotions and electric attraction between Sir Geoffrey and Lady Sara was everything that was forbidden to them, and yet they were unable to pull away from the allure of exploring their illicit relationship. Intermingled with danger and betrayal, this is a very fine example of medieval romance.
The Lord’s Captive: Driven by revenge Lord Bryce, drives out the Scottish Kerrs who had stolen his home at Bristol Manor. In the melee, the Kerr brothers inadvertently leave their wounded sister behind, believing her to be dead. However, Bryce's men find her and return her to Bristol Manor. Catrina is unlike any other woman Bryce has met, however she is still his enemy and becomes a bargaining chip with her brothers. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the suspense with the threat of war hanging over their heads, and the romance between Bryce and Catrina.
The Chief’s Maiden: Juliette is a good daughter with a determination that she has to keep hidden from her parents and even the servants in her home. She has been well school by the nuns at the convent. Tales of love have touched her soul and she longs to have a love match despite her father's plans for her. When Juliette meets Toren at the Tournament of the North, she feels that she has a chance of reaching for her dreams.
A great deal of research has gone into this series, giving background and history. The series is well written and easy to read, one chapter flowing into the next. There is mystery, plots, romance and adventure, all of which keeps the stories interesting. I received a copy of this series as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Books 1-3 in the WICKEDLY EXCITING AND ADDICTIVE FIVE STAR "Border Series".
These wonderfully well written stories take place in the 13th century along the borderlands of Scotland and England.
I loved the strong warriors and the sassy women who are anything but cooperative and docile! I was on the edge of my seat following the characters along their journey between war, peace, love, angst, and loss. I didn’t want it to end. I recommend every book in the Border Series and everything that is written by this author! Each book is better than the last. I can’t wait for the next book!
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Action-packed, Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Happily Ever After, Page-turner, Romantic, Realistic, Witty dialogue, Wonderful characters.

This is a terrific series written by a gifted author.

These books are everything I love about Scottish medieval romances. The characters come alive, the emotions are honest and visceral, the setting is perfectly described, and the action keeps you glued to every page. These are stories that completely sweep you away, with men of honor and women of virtue who discover an immediate, intense chemistry and develop a romance that stands the test of time. Each book is a standalone, but as an interconnected series they fit together as an ongoing story. After reading each new book, I go back and reread the others from the beginning to enjoy the characters all over again.

Great Series! Plenty of drama and suspense with great characters. The stories really draw you in and take you back in time. Each read can be read as a stand-alone but it is nice to have the first three books plus a novella bundled together. The characters are amazing and their chemistry steamy. I was hooked from beginning to end.
