Nicole Sorrell Wow! What an intriguing question! And, because I write fiction, it's a question I haven't given much thought to!

When I was a very young child, an African American family moved to my tiny Midwestern town. They were the only black family in town, and I think one of about three or four black families in our county. Their daughter was in my class. Only a few weeks later, she stopped coming to school because her family had moved away. At the time I was too young to understand racial tensions, but as an adult I wonder why the family stayed for such a short time and what caused them to leave. Our society still experiences racial tension. I think their story would be potent and timely even today, and make an interesting plot for a novel.

I love questions, and appreciate the opportunity to connect. Thank you.
Nicole Sorrell Well, I'm a little biased on this one - I have to say it's Maddie and Zac from my The Art of Living Duet! Zac is the perfect boyfriend. Though, he's not a perfect person (he gets a little controlling when he's afraid for Maddie's safety), he is patient and considerate, always trying to meet her needs. Maddie's biggest concern is she will let him down in a relationship because of her 'baggage.' But they manage to make it work, and help each other become stronger. And isn't that what relationships are all about?
Nicole Sorrell Hi Diana,

Thanks for asking! I'm glad you enjoyed The Art of Going Home!

The Art of Retribution, the last book in the series, is due this fall. I don't have a release date.

In the meantime, The Art of Getting Away, a standalone short story featuring Zac's brother Carlos, will be released in an anthology on June 28, 2016. The anthology, Stories of Sun, Sand and Sea will be available for pre-order May 16, 2016.

Nicole Sorrell Book 2 in The Art of Living Series, The Art of Retribution, which continues the story of Maddie Chandler and Zac.

I’m also working on a short story with the characters from The Art of Living Series, called The Art of Getting Away. The hero is Carlos, one of the secondary characters in Books 1 and 2. While taking a vacation, he meets a girl he can’t resist.
Nicole Sorrell It may sound trite, but I learned I really can do it! It’s important to use available resources and make contacts. Learn everything you can about what makes writing good, and keep working at the craft. Educate yourself about the publishing process. Don’t give up, and take each hurdle as it comes. Have confidence in yourself.
Nicole Sorrell From my characters. They speak to me, and I feel compelled to write down their stories. Recording their circumstances, challenges and triumphs gives me a unique joy I only experience when I’m writing.
