[close] hi hi! my name's isla, i'm the moderator of this group. i've just cleared practically everything in this group because it was inactive for a while and i figured i needed to refresh in order to spark up some more conversation. but basically, this is a group purely to chat about books and writing! you can chat about other stuff, but i don't know why you'd be on GR to talk about stuff other than books. anyways, join cuz we're a cool group of people.

[close] There is at least one reading challenge within the group per month as well as quarterly reading challenges, buddy reads, book of the month group discussions, non-competitive challenges, read to reviews, and more. Group Rules Please be respectful of this and other groups. Spamming other groups and other members will not be tolerated. Reviews must be original, new, and not be a synopsis of the book. Anyone not following these guidelines will be removed from the group after three infractions. If you have questions feel free to contact a moderator.

[close] Welcome to the Roundtable If you enjoy books that ask a little more of the reader--and give more back in return--you’ll likely feel at home here. We focus on literary fiction, the classics, and nonfiction, and we’re interested in how different readers experience and interpret the same work. In 2026, we’re keeping things open and reader-driven. Our year-long TBR Challenge continues, while occasional monthly reads--organized by members--will explore a range of themes and interests as they arise. In September, we’ll also bring back our four-month, task-based Book Challenge. As always, members are welcome to start discussions--whether about a favorite author, a recent read, or a book that’s been lingering in your thoughts. This group is here for thoughtful reading and conversation, at whatever pace suits you. The fine print: We all have our guilty pleasures--vampires in love, celebrity memoirs, beloved books from childhood--and there’s nothing wrong with that. This group, however, is a space set aside for a particular kind of reading and discussion: thoughtful, well-crafted writing for an adult audience. Our focus is on literary fiction, the classics, serious nonfiction, literary science fiction, historical fiction, and classic mysteries. What we value most is engaged, curious reading. We welcome a wide range of perspectives and interpretations, and a strong passion for books is a plus--as long as the conversation stays centered on the books themselves. Please be respectful of fellow members and avoid personal attacks; lively disagreement is great, ad hominem is not. Because this is a private group, we ask prospective members to apply. A few words about why you’d like to join and what you hope to get out of the group will help us get to know you.
