Bill Rapp I tend to prefer historical periods for these flights of fantasy, but if it has to be fictional I guess I would like to visit the world of Charles McCarry's earlier novels so I could meet his hero Paul Christopher. That character has a background not that far from my own, and I think I'd enjoy a long conversation with the man.
Bill Rapp I tend to let my characters take the story where it needs to go. I find this helps prevent writer's block. If I am having a problem, I let the whole thing rest for a short while. If the story and characters are real enough, something will break.
Bill Rapp The best thing about being a writer is the sense of accomplishment when you've created something you truly believe in.
Bill Rapp I am currently working on a follow-on story to Tears of Innocence, moving the story forward to 1955 Vienna as Austria prepares to regain its independence and sovreignty through the State Treaty. Austria's political neutrality threatens to cement the division of Europe and will present new clhallenges on the front line of the East-West divide in the heart of Europe. The new book's working title in The Hapsburg Variation.
Bill Rapp The idea for my most recent book, Tears of Innocence, came from my love of history, my affinity for Berlin, where I've lived and worked as a student and diplomat, and the experience of my father-in-law, who was assigned there just after the end of WWII.
